Your mind is one of the most important components in Badminton, without it you
wouldn’t even be able to stand on the court without falling over.

There are a few skills you need in badminton to become successful.

The top two attributes needed are exceptional focus & concentration.

We all know how hard it is to focus & concentrate on something intensely.

The mind wanders thinking of all types of random un related things.

“Did I lock the front door when I left the house”?

“What’s for dinner tonight”?

“Do you think I’ll actually hit the target”?

On & on the mind goes & it just won’t stop, no matter how hard you try.

The mind can be full of negativity & self doubts as well just to mention a few
distractions the mind will throw up.

Have you ever noticed the harder you try to stop the mindless chatter
the more chatter comes up.


Then you find yourself concentrating on what’s going on in your head than actually concentrating on what you are there to do.

Your mind is a powerful thing but trying to control it can seem to be almost impossible.

I tell my clients & students that trying to train your mind can feel like training a wild beast.

Unless you have a spare lifetime to go & meditate like a monk everyday of your life,
quietly in a waterfall then you may learn to master your mind.


But if you’re like the rest of us, then that is highly unlikely to happen.

If you think you are the master of your mind then, just for a moment I don’t want you to think of a pink elephant.

Just don’t think of a pink elephant, or any elephant for that matter.

Keep your mind completely clear of any elephants, pink or not.

Now close your eyes & clear your mind for a moment & try, just try to keep your thoughts at bay.

If you don’t think of a pink elephant or an elephant at all while you had your eyes shut,
then you are either kidding your self or you belong with the monks.
